Hello, welcome to my site.  My name is Tim Coffren, an artist and
musical performer. I am also a well travelled Backpacker, Sea
Kayaker and author of hiking maps and indigenous teaching stories.
I spent most of my life working as a professional licensed wilderness
guide and educator of "The Old Ways" while always working in the
music industry in some capacity . Though retired from wilderness
guiding and as a radio personality, I have continued to make and
play custom, handmade traditional and contemporary style Native
American Indian inspired flutes. I also offer them for sale to the
general public. I have sold flutes all over the world for many years
so don't be shy if you live in a far-away land. Just ask me if you see
something you like. I will be happy to answer your questions and
perhaps, if you like, to create your own flute for you.

My flutes are an inspired fusion of my Celtic and Native American
life way as well as my interest in world music, nature and the arts.
Basically my music is an Ancient Forest Music.

Many people believe the Native American Flute allows a person to
connect or journey with Great Spirit in an ancient way. This way
came before modern religions and science attempted to redefine
spirituality. In this older way you journey and or pray as you and
creation create music together. It does not require any musical
training only an open heart to create the healing music this
instrument is known for.

Grandfather Fools Crow said."You must become an empty hollow
horn" so that Creator can fill you up"

This is the way to begin to learn to play.

"Let Creator fill you with song and allow it to issue fourth from your
flute! "
I said that...

I create each flute in a good way, one at a time, allowing me to pay
special attention to it's individual needs. In my opinion, each flute is
a living being that will outlive me or anyone else, as it journey's
along its trail in this world. The flute requires caretakers with caring
hearts, not ego centric owners. I believe they must be respected as
a good teacher or friend should be and in return they will enrich
your life as any good relationship will. Sometimes the flute instructs
me to gift it to an individual and not take money for it. This I do with
great respect and Honor as my Grandfather instructed me long ago.

I believe that the foundation of a good life is found in bringing
together and perfecting the three basic natural attraction instincts of
Humans; basically these attractions include Nature, Art and Music.
My work revolves around these three simple natural instincts.
Weather it be Flutes, Gongs, Tongue Drums, Aeolian Harps and other
wind sculptures; they all attract and stimulate my passion. My shop is
full of various projects large and small. You will find representative
examples included in the web links on this page.

I believe music is the language of a culture. It's diverse tunings,
rhythms and sounds of it's own culturally unique music and
accompanying instruments create rich audio acoustic sound scape
that can readily identify a culture or person. One of my interests is
the "ancient/modern music" that is being created today while
bringing together musicians and instruments that have never been
brought together before. Where the musician melts away into the
sound scape and a unifying force takes over. This fusion is what we
call "World Fusion Music". In my opinion it is the best example of
people working together from the heart without politics or ego. It is
also a good representation of the healing qualities of some sounds
and proof that after all is said, we truly are one.

Soft Winds!

You are listening to a song from T. Coffren's CD "Ravens Dream". The double or drone
flute is handmade by him. This song is called "Song for the ignorance of the lowly
weed"

Art is the signature of a culture. It is the mark of
what is left when sadly, another culture fades into
obscurity. Sometimes it is the only way we know a
culture even existed. Music is the language of each
species. We identify each by it's song. Even when
a human speaks, it is said to be "Sing/Song" to
those who do not speak that particular language.
This suggests that Creator loves the arts an so
placed these special gifts into each of us for us to
remember to keep a light heart.
