TUNG DRUMS ARE ONE OF THE OLDEST FOREST
DRUMS KNOWN. THEY WERE OFTEN JUST A HOLLOWED
OUT LOG WITH A SLIT CUT INTO THEM WHICH SERVED
TO FUNCTION AS A SOUND HOLE. WHEN STRUCK WITH
A STICK THE LOG CREATED A DEEP DRUM SOUND THAT
WAS ENHANCED BY THIS SOUND HOLE OR SLIT AS IT
IS KNOWN. LATER ARTISTS ADDED MORE OF THESE
SLITS WHICH CREATED TUNG LIKE KEYS THAT WHEN
CUT AT DIFFERENT LENGTHS INTO THE BODY OF THE
LOG CREATED DIFFERENT NOTES. WHEN STRUCK
THESE KEYS COULD BE USED TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL
RYTHEMS. TODAYS TUNG DRUMS HAVE AS MANY AS
TEN TUNG'S OR AS FEW AS ONE.
I CREATE MY TUNG DRUMS USING BEAUTIFUL LOCAL
HARDWOODS THAT ARE USUALLY DISCARDED DUE TO
THEIR UNUSUAL FIGURATIVE GRAINS. I SEARCH FOR
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CHARACTER IN THE WOOD TO
INSURE THAT EACH TUNG DRUM IS UNIQUE.

This "Spaulded Maple" Tung Drum is made in a "six tung" design
by Me. This incredibly beautiful wood is rare and hard to find.
The coloration and stripe pattern is a result of tiny insects
boring into the wood using and acid like saliva. Their saliva's
chemical reaction permanently stains the wood. It is impossible to
predict the pattern or outcome of each drum. Of course it's song is
sweet and fun for beginners or advanced drummers. The drum
beaters neatly slip into the side handles for easy storage.
