We like to record students engaged in their work. Do you see yourself in
this group?

On Feb. 3rd. 2006 eleven students spent the day with Tim and his fellow
artist Eve carving, sharing stories and making new friends. This
Workshop was held in Bridgton Maine at Raven wood Studio.

My friend Frank is slowly
finding his flute as his smile
lights up the room.

Kathy finds her flute

Tim looks on with

The Sacred Cedar Circle evolves
before our eyes as our flutes come
to life.
Carving flutes is just the beginning.
The real goal is inner dialog with spirit
and the ancestors. As I carve I speak
with them and listen. It is in this space
that I have learned the most about our
species and this place we call home.

Playing Flutes at the
canyon of Los Alamos,
New Mexico at a place
known as "The Shaman's
Cave". A 25 foot climb up
a cedar ladder brings you
to this ancient place.

Tim Prepares a flute blank for construction. First he marks
the tunning holes then he uses a hand T-drill to bore the
rough hole and finishes with hot steal bores. Then after
careful carving he smooths the hole while tunning it to size.
Tim carves the "bird" to shape.
Tim "wakes up" the flute after
ceremony and prayer. The flutes first
song tells him about the nature of this
new life. He gives each flute it's name
after playing it and handing it on the
it's human caretaker. "It is a life, he
says. You do not own them, they
choose to journey with you and give
you what you give them and nothing
more. Neglect them and they will not
work for you, love them and they will fill
you with their love and in turn you and
they will share love with all who listen."
